On March 4, House Bill 123 passed a floor vote in the Georgia House 172-0! Click here to watch the vote.
The bill, sponsored by Chairman Bill Werkheiser, would create a pretrial hearing process for determining intellectual disability, and would lower the standard of proof from “beyond a reasonable doubt” to “preponderance of the evidence.” HB 123 now moves to the Senate for their consideration.
Take these easy steps today to ensure that Georgia no longer executes people with intellectual disabilities:
- Find your Georgia Senator.
- Call their Capitol office number on their profile page.
- Tell the staff person who answers the phone that you are a constituent and you would like for your senator to support HB 123 to end the death penalty for people with intellectual disabilities in Georgia.
If you call and are sent to voicemail, leave the same message above and include your contact information.
