The Senate has passed House Bill 123, which will end the death penalty for people with intellectual disabilities in Georgia. The House must now approve the changes passed by the Senate.

In a nearly unanimous vote, the Senate voted on March 31 53-1 to pass House Bill 123. The changes made by the Senate Judiciary Committee will now need to be approved by the House.

If that approval occurs by Friday, April 4, the last day of the session (also known as Sine Die), it will go to Governor Kemp for his signature.
